Getting Started with Missouri Dental Medicaid
The first step toward Medicaid reimbursement is getting credentialing with MO HealthNet. In this post, we’ll guide you through the enrollment process with useful tips to avoid application rejection errors.
If your practice is new to Medicaid as a whole, you will need to submit an application for your practice, as well as each location, using the corresponding group NPI. Once approved, individual providers can enroll.
If you have previously credentialed with MO HealthNet, you may be able to apply for revalidation. See if you’re eligible by checking your provider status at emomed.com, or contact Missouri Medicaid Audit and Compliance at MMAC.Revalidation@dss.mo.gov, or call (573) 751-5238.
How to Credential Like a Pro
1. Make a Game Plan
It’s beneficial to identify which payors you want to partner with before starting the credentialing process.
If you aren’t sure which payors are right for your practice, check out our Medicaid Mini-Series: Meet Your Payors to learn more about Missouri dental Medicaid payors, who they serve, and how they can benefit you.
2. Streamline Your Process
Certain documents must be sent along with your application, and gathering these before enrolling makes for quicker submission.
When applying as an individual, you will be asked to provide:
-
- Copy of Provider License or Social Security Card
- Title XIX Participation Agreement
- Business Organizational Structure Form
- EFT Document
- Voided Check or Bank Letter
If you are also enrolling your group or practice, you will need to provide:
-
- Group (Type II) NPI number
- Tax ID Number or EIN
- Medicare ID number – Application fees can be waived if your practice is enrolled with Medicare
- Payee Information
- Bank Information
3. Start Your Application
On a non-AOL browser, visit emomed.com and select ‘Provider Enrollment Application’.
Tip: Be sure you read all the information on his page before proceeding, as it contains important instructions for completing your application.
Then, click ‘Continue’ and choose ‘NEW Provider Enrollment Applications’
Select ’40 Dentist’ from the drop-down menu and click ‘Next’. From here, you can fill in the necessary information and submit your application. Required information can vary from provider to provider.
Tip: Follow the Provider Enrollment Guide carefully so you know exactly which application fields and supporting documents are needed for your provider status.
Once you submit your online application, print and sign the confirmation page, the last page. Fax the confirmation page and required documents to (573) 634-3105 in one transmission.
If you can’t complete your application in one sitting, don’t worry! You can save your progress and return later. Be sure to note your PIN so you can easily access your application.
4. Avoid Application Rejection
Incomplete forms, missed details, and other minor issues can lead to rejection. It’s best to take your time, read carefully, and double-check each step to avoid incomplete forms and inaccurate information.
Use our Dental Provider Credentialing Checklist to ensure you’ve taken the proper steps and provided the necessary documentation.
Tip: Providers are often rejected due to incomplete faxed submissions. To avoid this, ensure all pages are sent in a single transmission, oriented the same way, and that the fax number has disconnected before redialing for a second transmission.
5. Finishing Up
Once you’ve completed your submission, you should receive your MO HealthNet approval within six weeks. But before you move on, there are a few things you can do to make the most of the enrollment process.
Be sure to follow up with MMAC via email 2 days following your submission at mmac.providerenrollment@dss.mo.gov to ensure they received your full application, including your NPI as a reference.
What Can I Do if My Application is Rejected?
Application rejections can be discouraging, especially when the reasoning is vague. The best thing you can do is be proactive about reaching out.
To help you get clarity and avoid further delays, email MMAC.providerenrollment@dss.mo.gov and include your NPI to ask for more information. They typically respond within 48 hours.
You can also call the Provider Enrollment Help Desk at (833) 818-1183 to inquire about your application.
When Can I Enroll with Managed Care Plans?
You can enroll with Managed Care Plans once your MO HealthNet application has been approved. You do have to recieve a Medicaid ID number from MO HealthNet first.
